Word Count: 719

It wasn't just that Woohyun loved Sungyeol. It wasn't just that at all.

It wasn't just that stupid, dorky grin and the shining, wild look in his eyes that had everyone fussing and fawning over him, and it really wasn't just that.

(Sungyeol had always been the first to smile, the first to laugh, the first to make everyone else in the room to feel a little bit lighter, a little bit brighter.)

It was just that everyone loved Sungyeol, and Sungyeol loved everyone.

There was Sunggyu, who was sort of hopelessly fond of him, and doted upon Sungyeol in a way he didn't for the other members. Woohyun noticed it in the way their leader smoothed out the younger boy's clothes before a live, in the way he reached up to fix his hair. Sunggyu was tender in ways he didn't need to be, and Woohyun noticed because it was all too familiar.

There was Dongwoo, who for all of his smirks and swagger couldn't be smooth to save his life, which of course meant that he and Sungyeol got along fine. They would snicker to themselves and grin like idiots, and from the corner of his eye Woohyun would see the two taking ridiculous selfcas together, posing in the mirror like the idiots they were, and he'd have half a mind to go over and clonk their heads together, but he always stopped himself.

There was Sungjong, who was all sunshiney happiness and coy little smiles. On a night two months ago, Sungjong had disappeared for six hours and then waltzed back into the dorm at three in the morning smelling suspiciously like alcohol and men's cologne. He'd sauntered up to a bewildered Sungyeol and planted a kiss on his lips before sashaying away. Sungjong woke up remembering none of it, and everyone waved it off as a drunken incident, but Woohyun still thinks back and wondered if Sungyeol liked it.

There was Hoya (his real name was Howon, but Sungyeol was the only person who would ever be able to call him that) who was endearingly serious, awkward, and still a little stiff around the shoulders. Getting close to Hoya was hard, but Sungyeol would tug at his sleeves and blow air into his ears and pinch his cheeks like it was no problem.

If it were anyone else, they'd be met with an impatient sigh and a small shove out of the way. But because it is Sungyeol (whom, it seems, all of Hoya's exceptions seemed to be made for) he kind of quirks his lips in amusement and Sungyeol would be delighted.

And then there was Myungsoo, who was smilingly reserved and quiet and polite. He was Infinite's enigma, their distant city man, who said his script like he was supposed to and sometimes faded a little bit into the background. But Sungyeol brought out this sweet, silly side of him, one that made him light up on variety shows and go along with his games and Woohyun guessed that Sungyeol just had that kind of effect on people. And Woohyun wouldn't have minded as much if it had stopped with just that.

But Sungyeol was clingy, and if there was a time that he wasn't busy bothering the others, it was spent draped over Myungsoo's shoulders. If Myungsoo had words that needed to be said, Sungyeol would be the first to hear them.

And Woohyun watched them wistfully, at Sungyeol's fingers on Myungsoo's arm, at Myungsoo's lips at Sungyeol's ear, whispering, sharing secrets.

Unable to explain why his chest tightened every time he saw the two of them together, unable to explain why he so often wanted to punch Myungsoo in the face.

It wasn't just that Woohyun loved Sungyeol.

(Although yes, that was a lot of it. Woohyun loved Sungyeol from the moment they met, when he first greeted him with a wave and a smile. And just like that, Sungyeol was a constant thrum through his head, blurring through the dance tracks and the rehearsals and through the sleepless nights when Sungyeol and Myungsoo shared a bed.)

It's just that though Sungyeol becomes Woohyun's everything, Woohyun is still just that other guy who follows him around like the question marks that hover above his head, unnoticed and unnecessary.

Woohyun knows he's wasting his time. He never regrets it. He never stops.
